The nominees for the inaugural Golden Lobes have been announced, with four nods to Mercury shows.

The Golden Lobes are a brand-new awards night celebrating the funniest podcasts, people, and moments in the audio industry. Think of it as the comedy podcast world’s own night of glory, brought to you by the folks behind Cheerful Earful.

“Wow! We’re delighted to have picked up nominations for three awards at the Golden Lobes!” Says the team at PastMaster. The comedy time-travel AI podcast, bagged itself three nominations for its artwork, imaging and social content. We can’t wait to celebrate with some of the funniest podcasters in the game.”

Verbal Diorama, hosted by Em McGowan, also landed a nomination for its iconic opening jingle. “I am absolutely blown away by the nomination,” Em says. “I genuinely wasn’t expecting it, but I’m pleased as punch that I have been. (Insert funny joke here). Huge thanks to Cheerful Earful, and congratulations to all my fellow nominees!”

The first Golden Lobes ceremony is being held at a swanky London venue in May, where Mercury is also presenting the Grower Not a Shower award, celebrating podcasts that have created something special with just their bare hands a bucket load of grit.

“I’m delighted that Mercury is a media partner of the Golden Lobes, supporting the best comedy in podcasting. To represent some nominees is a huge bonus,” says Mercury founder Liam Heffernan.

“I think PastMaster is the best comedy podcast in the world, so clearly they were robbed in the Big Ears category… but perhaps I’m biased. Their three nods are a testament to the immense amount of work Ryan and Tan do behind the scenes creating such a strong brand for the show.”

“I’ve also not met many people as committed to independent podcasting as Em, so to see her get the recognition she deserves for her own work, when she spends so much time celebrating everyone else, makes me super super happy.”
