A Celebration of Independence

The UK’s biggest new independent podcast network has launched the inaugural Independent Podcasters Day – an annual moment to recognise, celebrate and unite the global community of independent podcast creators. Join the movement at IndependentPodcastersDay.com and share your story using #IndiePodDay.

Independent podcasting is one of the most remarkable creative movements of the last two decades. Millions of people around the world – grafters, side-hustlers and game-changers – have built audiences, communities and careers entirely on their own terms, without the backing of a major network or a corporate budget behind them.

Mercury, home to some of the world’s best independent podcasts, believes it’s time that commitment was recognised. That’s why we are reclaiming July 4th as Independent Podcasters Day – an annual global celebration of every creator who has ever hit record and meant it.

The date is deliberate. Independence Day.
Except this one belongs to the podcasters.

Independent Podcasters Day is a free, global, annual celebration open to every independent podcast creator on earth. There are no gatekeepers, no entry criteria and no big network deciding who gets a seat at the table. If you make an independent podcast, this day is yours.

On 4th July each year, Mercury invites the global independent podcasting community to come together – to share their stories, celebrate their shows, connect with fellow creators and remind the world what independent audio is actually capable of.

The celebration is anchored around the hashtag #IndiePodDay – a feed of creator voices, listener love and real stories from the people who make independent podcasting what it is. Podcasters are encouraged to share why they started, what keeps them going, and what their show means to them.

Mercury has built its network around a simple belief – the best audio doesn’t come from the biggest budgets. As a home for independent podcasters who have built real, loyal audiences without compromise, Mercury understands better than anyone what it takes to make great independent audio.

“Where would podcasting be without the grafters, the side-hustlers and the game-changers?” says Mercury CEO Liam Heffernan. “Independent podcasting is a feat of endurance. These creators deserve their own day – to celebrate, to connect and to be recognised for how extraordinary what they do actually is. This is their Independents Day.”

Mercury champions independent creators not just in spirit but in practice – providing the commercial infrastructure, audience development and platform support that allows independent podcasting to compete at the highest level.

Independent Podcasters Day is open to everyone. Creators, listeners, brands and fans of independent podcasts are invited to take part.
