Nominations for the second annual Ear Worthy Podcast Awards have been announced, and Mercury is celebrating five nominations, including for Best Podcast Network that Supports Independent Podcasts, of which it is the only nominee.
Also among the nominees are Em McGowan’s Verbal Diorama, Liam Heffernan’s America: A History, and Danny Brown’s 5 Random Questions, which was also nominated for the top prize – Best Indie Podcast of the Year.
Mercury is the only nominee, and therefore the winner of Best Podcast Network that Supports Indie Podcasts. Frank Racioppi, creator of the Ear Worthy Awards, said:
“We debated this for a while, but in the end decided that as advocates for indie podcasts, Mercury was the only network traveling at light speed while all others are obeying the speed limit.”
Ear Worthy is a newsletter and champion of independent podcasts, run by Frank Racioppi, and after a successful first year, the awards now stand as a flagbearer for the best that independent podcasts have to offer.
Ear Worthy defines independent “indie” podcasts as those produced by an individual without support from large podcast networks, such as Spotify, iHeart, Wondery, SiriusXM, or major production studios like Sony or Warner Music. Indie podcasts can belong to a small podcast network, be developed by a non-profit organization, a museum, or a quasi-governmental agency.
Mercury is delighted to be included among the nominees. Since launching in early 2025, we have tirelessly championed the best independent shows you should be listening to, and this recognition from Ear Worthy, who share our passion for the indie space, is exactly why we exist.
